Susana, Esplugues, Thurs 15th Dec 2011. Conversation about her grandparents, the War and the Modern generation

We met for breakfast in the part of town where she lives. For some reason, in mid conversation we touched on the subject of Spanish politics and family history. She described to me how her grandparents had ´´immigrated´´ to Barcelona from other parts of Spain in the War. Forced to change their lives in order to survive. No work was on offer.
Her Paternal grandparents had nothing: no social standing therefore had to fight to survive.
Those from her Mother´s side did have social class and money. They owned various factories. However, one of their sons squandered everything and they were forced into near poverty through his recklessness.
They had 9 children and the youngest three were girls. They had to go and ´´pescar un marido´´ pretending that they were still wealthy and of the upper class. They had no practical skills. They played the piano etc but didn´t have transferible skills in order to enter the workplace. So they set out to find husbands of high social standing in order to maintain the future generations as they once were.

´´los rojos´´

Susana explained to me how generations of Spanish people had developed for certain specific reasons and factors. Indeed this can be applied to any nationality. We spoke about my sister´s defected generation, ´´la generación tara´´ as one of her friends so aptly named it!!A generation in which, due largely to their parents overly giving and non disciplinarian attitude, believe that the World owes them not just something, but everything.A hand is offered out to their parents asking or begging for money instead of going out to work and to explore the World´s workplace.
An attitude that is indeed flawed as this generation is almost like a cake that is taken out of the oven too early: left half risen and lacking in taste and kick.
